Human Smuggler, 5 Illegal Aliens Arrested After Sierra Vista Vehicle Pursuit

TUCSON – Border Patrol agents arrested three Phoenix men, five illegal aliens, and seized a firearm in Sierra Vista after a Thursday evening car chase.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), shortly after 5:00 p.m., Border Patrol agents attempted to conduct a vehicle stop on a 2001 Mercedes Benz C240. The vehicle didn’t stop, but continued to drive into Sierra Vista.

The car stopped in traffic near the intersection of State Route 92 and Fry Boulevard, and all of the occupants, five illegal aliens, all Mexican nationals, fled from the scene, except for one man who was trapped in the trunk. After removing the man from the trunk, agents found a firearm inside the vehicle.

The men who fled were quickly arrested by agents and local law enforcement at the scene.

The driver and one passenger are being charged with human smuggling. The driver is also facing charges from the Arizona Department of Public Safety for endangerment. The aliens will be processed for immigration violations.

The car and the firearm are being seized.
