WASHINGTON – Mesa Mayor John Giles was in Washington on Monday to demand Senate leaders pass the “Bipartisan Background Check Act of 2019,” which would require background checks of gun purchasers in nearly all transactions.

The “Bipartisan Background Check Act of 2019,” HR 8, passed through the House on a party-line vote.

Giles and his fellow mayors from across the country penned a letter to President Donald Trump demanding that he not accept “NRA-backed proposals or other weak ideas that will do nothing to stop the continuing, horrific spread of gun violence.”
