8 Horses Shot, Killed In Heber Wild Horse Territory

HEBER-OVERGAARD — Federal officials announced on Sunday the shooting deaths of 8 horses in the Heber-Overgaard area.

According to the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, investigators confirmed the discovery of the deceased horses on the Black Mesa Ranger District outside of the Heber Wild Horse territory on January 10, 2020.

The Forest Service and the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the deaths.

The Forest Service is asking the public to “remain patient and to avoid the area during the ongoing investigation.”
