Prescott Hospital Housekeeper Arrested For Stealing PPE Amid COVID-19 Crisis

YAVAPAI COUNTY – A former housekeeper, Keith Brown, is in custody for stealing personal protective equipment from the Yavapai Regional Medical Center.

According to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, the Prescott Police Department responded to a call at the Yavapai Regional Medical Center (YRMC) West campus in Prescott regarding an investigation into one of their housekeeping employees who they believe has been stealing various items of personal protective equipment and other housekeeping supplies over the last several weeks.

An investigation was conducted by the Yavapai county Sheriff’s Office and the suspect was identified as the 49-year-old Brown, a Prescott resident. Brown worked in housekeeping at YRMC West and was contacted by officers. During his interview he admitted to stealing items from the hospital over the last three weeks to include gloves, hand sanitizer, surgical scrubs, wash cloths, paper towels, masks, bleach, cleaner, and an automatic hand sanitizer machine and toilet paper. The items were recovered from his vehicle and from his residence with an approximate value of $1700.

Brown was booked into the Yavapai County jail on one count of felony theft and one count of fraud.

Brown has been terminated from employment with YRMC.

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office is working with the County Attorney’s Office and YRMC regarding the return of those much needed items to the hospital.

Yavapai County Community Health Services is currently reporting 44 cases of coronavirus.
