Police coalition busts 85 in gang for drugs, firearms, stolen cars in Eastern Arizona

GILA COUNTY — State and local law enforcement agencies rounded up 85 members of an organized criminal network which sold illicit drugs in Gila and Navajo Counties.

The investigation, which began in September and included the execution of 11 search warrants, resulted in the arrest of 25 suspects last week within Globe and nearby communities, said a release from the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The police seized a total of 3.5 pounds of methamphetamine, three ounces of heroin, four stolen vehicles, five firearms and U.S. currency.

The investigation, code-named “Operation Globetrotter,” was investigated by the Department of Public Safety’s Gang Task Force, Globe Police Department, Gila County Sheriff’s Office and Show Low Police Department. The Gila County Attorney’s Office collaborated in the operation.

“Operation Globetrotter struck a crippling blow to a criminal network and the pervasive crime associated with dangerous drug sales in the area,” said Colonel Frank Milstead, Arizona DPS director.
