Midday Collision In Phoenix Leaves Teen Dead And Two Adults Hospitalized

Phoenix Police detectives are investigating a midday collision that two hospitalized and 14-year-old Omar Meraz Hernandez dead.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, on April 19, 2025, around 3:10 p.m., officers responded to the area of 35th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road regarding a collision where a vehicle struck a pole. When officers arrived, they located the single vehicle involved in the collision and it’s three occupants. The adult male driver and adult female passenger were both transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. Omar, the
passenger, was also transported to a nearby hospital but did not survive his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Detectives believe that the vehicle driven by the adult male was southbound on 35th Avenue when the vehicle lost control and left the roadway striking a nearby pole.

Impairment is not believed to be a factor in this collision.
