Governor Katie Hobbs is facing harsh criticism for her veto of SB 1027, the Secure Telecommunications Act of 2025, which would have banned telecommunications infrastructure within the State of Arizona that utilizes any equipment manufactured by a foreign adversary state.
The bill, aimed at China, was drafted based on a 2022 FBI report that found the Chinese Communist Party government was able to access domestic intelligence and commit acts of espionage and sabotage thanks to Chinese-made Huawei radio equipment, sold below the price of production and used throughout critical communications infrastructure of the U.S.
The bill’s sponsor, senator Wendy Rogers blasted Hobbs saying, “Governor Hobbs’ veto of SB 1027 shows just how radical she really is, when similar legislation in Nebraska to protect against Chinese threats was introduced by a Democrat senator, received unanimous bipartisan support at their state legislature, and was ultimately signed into law.”
“The safety and security of Arizona is in danger because she continues to serve as an obstructionist against commonsense legislation addressing the grave risk foreign adversaries pose to our nation,” continued Rogers. “I’m hopeful the citizens of Arizona are paying attention to her destructive agenda, from vetoing important border security legislation and bills safeguarding our energy supply, to now this latest shameful action against SB 1027. Arizona is in danger, and the security of our nation is on the line, so long as Hobbs occupies the Executive Towers.”
In a post to X.com, the Citizen for Free Enterprise called the veto a, “Really bad, short-sighted decision by @KatieHobbs. Chinese companies are attempting to take control of American infrastructure — and Katie Hobbs is letting them do it.”
The CFE added, “Just think about it: Why else would China be selling telecom equipment to the US at a loss?”
In the text of her veto letter to Senate President Warren Petersen Hobbs claimed, “We need to take necessary steps to protect our critical infrastructure, but SB 1027 is not a realistic way to do so. This bill’s broad language would create undue difficulty for the business community and generate costs to taxpayers.”
Anyone really surprised?
So when will our gutless state GOP start overriding these vetoes?
The GOP doesn’t have enough votes to override. You need to inform yourself on government structure.
This lady is hoping to get into the history books for being the absolute worst Governor ever I don’t think there’s a comparison out there. I absolutely believe there’s communists in her administration now, it was only speculation until this.
There is no “lady” there! A witch would be more appropriate.
Hobbs is the ‘enemy’ and what is the legislature doing to combat this situation – without THEM – she is NOTHING!
It is the Uniparty! That is what it is. That is the only logical explanation.
