A serial car thief, Jashwa Emanuel Hicks, has been sentenced to 7.5 years in prison for committing more than a dozen vehicle thefts throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area.

According to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, in May of 2025, Phoenix Police received a report of a stolen vehicle near 40th Street and Camelback Road in Phoenix. The stolen vehicle had tracking software that allowed police to locate it near McCormick Ranch Golf Club where they arrested Hicks.

After the arrest, police searched Hick’s phone and found photos, videos, and text messages linking him to 14 other vehicle thefts from October 2024 to April 2025. The total value of the stolen vehicles and personal items amounted to more than $600,000.

At the time of his arrest, Hicks was on probation for two other vehicle thefts he had committed in May and July of 2024.

Hicks pleaded guilty to a total of seven counts of Theft of Means of Transportation, a Class Three Felony, and one count of Misconduct Involving Weapons, a Class Four Felony.

Multiple victims stated in court filings that their lives were significantly impacted not only by the financial losses, but also by the lasting fear and anxiety resulting from the incidents. One victim shared, “Emotionally, this experience left me feeling violated, stressed, and constantly on edge.”

“Losing access to a vehicle can be devastating for families,” said County Attorney Rachel Mitchell. “This defendant was given multiple opportunities to correct his behavior but instead chose to reoffend and showed no remorse for the financial damage and hardship he caused. Thanks to the work of the Phoenix Police Department and prosecutor Mischa Hepner, he is now being held accountable.”

  1. 7.5 years? Does that mean out in 4 on probation? Hopefully not. After all, he was out on probation for car theft when he committed the thefts that earned him this 7.5 yr term. But our justice system is so broken he probably will get probation, again, in 4 years. Or less.

  2. It should be 5 years for each vehicle, no pleas, no probation, no early out, just a flat 5 years. Too harsh? Then how about we go back to the 1800s, they hung horse thieves.

    • I wish you were our Arizona Attorney General, rather than that taco-eating trollop Mayes.

  3. He’ll never pay back $600k. He should spend the rest of his life at hard labor trying to make restitution, though.

  4. Another victim of hiphop culture.
Choose to use your abilities for prividibg value to people and you can get rich.

  5. Why was he on probation for the two vehicle thefts in May and July of 2024 instead of being in prison then? Stealing a car is pretty big stuff and they only gave him probation? This consistent leniency only fosters more crime.
