Joint operations lead to joint ingredient, equipment seizure

Joint enforcement operations, focusing on transnational criminal organizations operating in the west desert, resulted in the seizure of 1,734 pounds of marijuana and multiple two-way radios.

Last week, West Desert Task Force (WDTF) members working with a CBP Air and Marine aircraft located an abandoned vehicle and 780 pounds of marijuana south of Vekol Valley.

Ajo and Casa Grande station agents assigned to the WDTF, found 43 bales of abandoned marijuana and two ATVs Friday near Cocklebur, Ariz. The dope, weighing 954 pounds, was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

On Sunday, officers and agents of the WDTF located two additional ATVs and various pieces of communication equipment southwest of Casa Grande, Ariz. The equipment consisted of six radios, multiple batteries and a repeater. A tracking operation was initiated, but no arrests were made.

The West Desert Task Force is comprised of officers and agents from the Ajo and Casa Grande Border Patrol stations; U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations; and the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office.
