Electric Bike Armed Robber Arrested Partner Sought

Earlier this month, two suspects entered the Arizona Cyclist shop at 5350 E Broadway. They were wearing masks and made statements saying they were robbing the store. The suspects used pepper spray on three employees behind the front counter, and rode off with two electric bicycles, each valued over $5,000.

Through tips from the community, Robbery detectives were able to identify one of the suspects as 34-year-old Christopher Higgins. They also were able to link him to an incident that he was involved in earlier in the year. In late January, Higgins went to the Kay Jewelers at the Park Place Mall to look at rings. He ran off with a ring worth several thousand dollars. While he was being chased by a store employee and a loss prevention officer, he pulled a knife and threatened them. He ran off into a nearby neighborhood and attempts to locate him that evening were unsuccessful.

Our Operations Division East Community Response Team began looking for Higgins once he was identified. They were able to locate him driving a stolen vehicle in the area of E. 29th St and S. Craycroft Rd and he was taken into custody without incident.

Higgins was booked into the Pima County Jail on the following charges:

  • Armed Robbery (Class 2 felony)
  • Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (Class 3 felony)
  •  3 counts of Aggravated Robbery (Class 3 felony)
  • 3 counts of Aggravated Assault (Class 3 felony)
  • Unlawful Use of a Means of Transportation (Class 5 felony)

The investigation is ongoing and detectives are still looking to identify the other suspect in the Arizona Cyclist incident.

He is described as:

  • a black male,
  • 5’10”-6’00”,
  • 200-230 pounds,
  • wearing a black shirt, white/gray athletic shorts, and a tan beanie.
