AZDPS Troopers Return Fire On Homicide Suspects During I-40 Chase

HOLBROOK — Two people are in custody in connection with a homicide and stolen weapons investigation after leading New Mexico State Police and Arizona Department of Public Safety officers on a chase. The 37-year-old man and 25-year-old woman shot at both New Mexico and Arizona law enforcement personnel during the chase.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS), around 2:15 a.m on Friday, New Mexico State Police (NMSP) told AZDPS that its officers were in pursuit of a white Ram pickup truck on westbound Interstate 40 that was headed toward Arizona.

Once the alleged suspects crossed the state line, AZDPS troopers responded to the area and took over the pursuit. Because the suspects began to shoot at both AZDPS NMSP troopers additional troopers went ahead of the suspects and returned fire. As a result, the suspect’s vehicle was disabled, and the suspects were taken into custody by Los Angeles Police Department personnel.
