Magnum Fire Burns 10,813 Acres, Forces Closure Of North Rim Of Grand Canyon

GRAND CANYON — The North Rim of the Grand Canyon is closed due to the growth of the Magnum. The wildfire has burned 10,813 acres as of Saturday.

The Magnum Fire has also forced the closure of a portion of Highway 89A, between Bitter Springs and Fredonia, firefighters said. The fire currently sits at 2% containment.

The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office issued an evacuation notice on Saturday for the Jacob Lake area. Structure protection crews immediately began preparing structures around Jacob Lake for the fire’s arrival by creating additional defensible space around structures.
