House Votes To Nationalize Local Police Departments

WASHINGTON — In a vote mostly along party lines, the House approved a far-reaching police overhaul proposed by Democrats on Thursday. Republican Representatives Fred Upton of Michigan, Will Hurd of Texas and Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania crossed the line to vote with Democrats.

Rep. Andy Biggs called the bill a product of the “radical left” which would “nationalize state and local police agencies and undermine the good work that the vast majority of peace officers perform in our communities.” Biggs stated the bill was part of an effort that is “dangerous for the future of our freedoms and our safety.”

Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick tweeted that the bill was just “one step in a series of necessary steps.”
