Since September 1, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Nogales Port of Entry have intercepted nearly 2 million fentanyl pills and other illegal drugs, according to Port Director Michael W. Humphries.
Just on Tuesday, officers at the Port seized two drug loads, finding approximately 538,400 fentanyl pills, 24.10 lbs. of fentanyl powder, and 5.30 lbs. of heroin all hidden in decorative stone items.
Later that day, officers found approximately 73,400 fentanyl pills hidden in the seats of a car, totaling approximately 1,041,800 fentanyl pills, 320.8 lbs. methamphetamine, 11.1 lbs. cocaine, and 1.27 lbs. of heroin. The smuggler hid the drugs in the vehicle’s dashboard, tires, tailgate, bumper, and inside the engine.
On September 23, officers at the Port seized two narcotic loads with approximately 129,200 fentanyl pills and 2.30 lbs. of fentanyl powder concealed under seats and in the firewall of a vehicle. 51.05 lbs. of methamphetamine hidden in the gas tank of one of the vehicles.
