Former Tucson School Counselor Sentenced For Sex Abuse Decades Ago

A Tucson man, Charles Michael Moreno, has been sentenced to 122 months in prison after pleading guilty on May 15, 2023, to Sexual Abuse of a Minor, Abuse of a Minor, and two counts of Abusive Sexual Contact.

The 61-year-old Moreno’s prison sentence is to be followed by lifetime supervised release.

According to the Department of Justice, in 2018, the high-school-aged victim reported to a school counselor that Moreno, a member of the Tohono O’odham Nation, had committed sexual abuse on numerous occasions, beginning when the victim was in grade school. The events took place in both the city of Tucson and on the Tohono O’odham Nation.

In 2020, Moreno was indicted by a federal grand jury on 14 counts of sexual abuse.
