Body Of Long-Time Pima County Deputy Attorney Found At Oak Creek Canyon Near Sedona

TUCSON, AZ – The body of a former deputy county attorney with the Pima County Attorney’s Office, Chris Straub, was found on Wednesday morning by deputies with the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office. Straub was 64.

According to the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), Straub went fly fishing near the Orchid Canyon Resort at Oak Creek Canyon, near Sedona. Once Straub did not return as expected, his wife alerted law enforcement that he was missing.

The CCSO Search & Rescue team found Straub around 12:25 p.m. today n thick overgrowth near the resort after suffering what appears to have been a fatal accident while hiking.

Straub’ death is still under investigation, however, and an autopsy will be performed by the Coconino County Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death in the coming days.

Straub served as advisory counsel County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry from 2006 until 2015. Most recently, Straub also served as the Supervising Attorney of the less-than-transparent Pima County Attorney’s Office’s Public Records Unit.
