In one day 600 lbs. pot seized

A 39-year-old female resident of Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico was arrested Tuesday for attempting to smuggle more than 425 pounds of marijuana, worth nearly $213,000, into the United States through the Douglas Port.

Customs and Border Protection officers assigned to the Tucson Field Office referred the woman for a secondary inspection of her Ford SUV. After a CBP narcotics detection canine alerted to the presence of drugs, officers located 391 packages of marijuana throughout the vehicle and its tires.

The drugs and vehicle were processed for seizure. The subject was arrested and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.

A 50-year-old male resident of Buckeye, Arizona, was arrested Tuesday for attempting to smuggle nearly 274 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $137,000, into the United States through the Lukeville Port.

Customs and Border Protection officers from the Tucson Field Office referred the man for a secondary inspection of his recreational vehicle. During the secondary inspection, officers found numerous bundles of marijuana hidden inside the RV’s water and septic tanks.

The vehicle and drugs were processed for seizure. The man was arrested and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.

“Between October and March, more than 1,100 pounds of marijuana were seized here” said Lukeville Acting Port Director Bonnie Arellano. “However, since April 1, we have seized more than 1,400 pounds of marijuana with an estimated value exceeding $720,000.”
