Scottsdale carjackers arrested after police receive tips

On July 15 at 12:30 p.m., a 76 yr old, Scottsdale resident was exiting the Fry’s Grocery Store at 7777 E. McDowell Road and walking to her vehicle which was parked northeast of the store. A man grabbed her from behind, took her purse and keys and threw her to the ground. The man took the victim’s vehicle and left westbound towards 77th Street.

The victim was treated at the scene for her minor injuries. The victim’s credit card was used at 3:30 pm that same day at the Fry’s located at 3036 E. Thomas Road in Phoenix by a different suspect.

After receiving tips, the Scottsdale Police Department was able to identify two suspects in the case as Edward J. Zamora and Jacob W. Strong.

Strong was taken into custody on Thursday, July 19th at a west Phoenix apartment without incident. Zamora had already been arrested by Phoenix Police Department earlier that same day on an unrelated charge.

Zamora will be charged with Assault, Auto Theft, Credit Card Theft and Fraudulent Use of Credit Card. Strong was booked on a count of Credit Card Theft and Fraudulent Use of Credit Card.
