Arizona Sheriff’s remember Sheriff Dever

Arizona lawmen remembered Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever, who was killed in a one-car, roll-over crash on a road near a northern Arizona lake Tuesday night.

“I’m shocked and saddened to hear of Larry Dever’s death, he was my friend, a leader on border security and leader among Sheriffs. This is a great loss to Arizona, a true patriot has died and he will be sorely missed.” Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu

Words are insufficient to describe the tragic loss of Sheriff Dever, not only was he a consummate professional, he was an incredible leader and human being. Arizona and Cochise County have suffered an irreplaceable loss. Larry’s sudden and untimely death has left a gaping hole in the hearts of all who have had the privilege of knowing this distinguished lawman. Our heartfelt prayers go out to his family and friends. I am sure his boots will remain unfilled in perpetuity.” Pima County Sheriff Clarence W. Dupnik

“He’s a traditional border sheriff and has done a great job throughout the years,” Arpaio said. “He covered that border as a federal official for many years. It’s a tough job, and he worked that border. He did a great job. It’s just a sad situation. My condolences go out to the family. The Sheriff had a lot of history, everybody knew him, its a small county, but everybody knew him, so he had that relationship with the public, his constituents. I don’t know if you can replace that, it would take years to get that support.” Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio

“As Yavapai County Sheriff and President of the Arizona Sheriff’s Association, I wish to send our heartfelt condolences to Sheriff Devers’ wife Nancy and his entire family. I am proud to have served as an Arizona Sheriff alongside such a man of honor, integrity, and devotion to public service.” Yavapai County Sheriff Scott Mascher

“Sheriff Dever was a good friend of mine for 20 years. We spoke about several law enforcement issues just recently when he told me he was going hunting with family members. He was dedicated career law enforcement professional. I will miss my good friend.” Mohave County Sheriff Tom Sheahan

“The men and women of U.S. Customs and Border Protection offer their most sincere condolences to the family and friends of Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever who died earlier today. Sheriff Dever was a dedicated law-enforcement professional who was passionate about the welfare of his constituents in Arizona. Sheriff Dever worked closely with CBP and other law-enforcement agencies in the region to ensure the safety and security of the border and of residents in southern Arizona. We offer our deepest sympathies.” Commander Jeffrey Self, Customs and Border Protection – Arizona
