Saucedo Mercer announces Grijalva challenge

Gabriela Saucedo Mercer announced she is running for Congress in Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District. Her campaign will officially launch at noon on May 18th with a kickoff event at the Four Points Sheraton at the Tucson Airport.

Grijalva who is serving his sixth 2-year term and plans to seek re-election won the November election with 58% of the vote to Saucedo Mercer’s 38%.

Saucedo Mercer released a statement on Tuesday in which she pointed out that the Congressional District has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country. “These and other economic factors are indications of problematic leadership, especially at the top where Raul Grijalva sits,” said Saucedo Mercer.

The 3rd Congressional District borders Mexico and includes the western half of Tucson, parts of Yuma and portions of several western Phoenix suburbs.
