Mount Lemon fire likely lightning caused

At approximately 6:00 p.m. tonight a fire was reported in the Catalina Mountains near Gordon Hirabayashi Day site, otherwise known as the Prison Camp site, just west of milepost 8 on Catalina Highway.

The fire is burning in light flashy fuels that have grown in since the Aspen Fire 11 years ago.

The fire, reported by the Lemon Rock Lookout on top of the mountain, likely was started by one of the numerous lightning strikes the area received this evening.

Two fire engines, three crews and several firefighters are battling the blaze. Additional resources will be assigned as needed.

Officials are asking members of the public to avoid the area while crews deal with the fire tonight and on into tomorrow.
