Motorcyclist rear ends Pima County deputy

On July 24, 2013, at about 3:00 p.m., Pima County deputies responded to the area of North Thornydale Road and West Cortaro Farms Road reference a traffic hazard. The witnesses that called 9-1-1 advised that there was a man running in and out of traffic and yelling at vehicles.

The first deputy that was in the area was flagged down by one of the witnesses. He pulled off the road and turned on his emergency lights while gathering the information. He was told by the witness that the male who was running in and out of traffic, left the area on a motorcycle prior to his arrival. While the deputy was speaking to the witness, they noticed a motorcycle traveling southbound on Thornydale at a high rate of speed.

The deputy then witnessed the motorcycle lose control and slide into the rear of his patrol vehicle. He immediately got out of his car and rendered first aid. The motorcyclist was later transported to University of Arizona Medical Center with life threatening injuries.

Deputies confirmed that the motorcycle involved in the collision was the same man that was running in and out of traffic. The man was not wearing a helmet and speed was a factor.

The investigation is continuing.
