On August 12, 2013, at approximately 10:32 p.m., San Xavier District deputies responded to a report of a collision on Valencia Road and Kolb Road involving a motorcyclist. When deputies arrived, they found the motorcyclist down and not responsive. They immediately began rendering first aid. Investigators with the Sheriff’s Traffic Unit responded and determined that the motorcyclist, identified as 20-year-old Ryan James Caughie, was travelling northbound on Kolb Road when he struck a vehicle making a left turn onto Valencia.
Mr. Caughie was transported to University Medical Center South Campus for treatment where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Currently, alcohol impairment is not considered a factor in this collision. The investigation by the Sheriff’s Traffic Unit continues.
