On April 13, 2014, around 3:30 AM, YCSO deputies were dispatched to a family fight underway in the 2600 block of Seybert Drive, Cornville. The caller, 36-year-old Jeremy Slaughter, reported that his girlfriend, 34-year-old Josie Owens, was “drunk and out of control.” Slaughter left the home pending arrival of deputies.
While speaking with Owens at the Seybert Drive home, deputies noticed scrapes and blood on both of her knees. Owens claimed she had been dragged down the street. Deputies found 2 children in the house, ages 13 and 15. Slaughter arrived and explained that he and Owens had been drinking at a local pub earlier and during the walk home after a taxi ride, Owens “flipped out for no reason.” She started swinging her arms at him, grabbed a gun from his waistband, and tried to strike him with it. Owens then ran home and he followed. He denied causing any of her injuries blaming them on falls.
Slaughter stated that both continued to argue inside the house. Slaughter eventually left and called the Sheriff’s Office. Owens, who was now detained in the back of a Sheriff’s vehicle due to confrontational behavior, was then interviewed. She remained uncooperative, became violent, and started to scream. The deputy who was speaking to her was kicked several times by Owens as she tried to remove herself from the vehicle. Deputies then placed her in special restraints to control her movement. During transportation to the Camp Verde Detention Center, Owens was able to kick out the driver’s side window and damage the frame. She was transferred to another vehicle and eventually arrived at the jail for booking.
Owens was charged with Disorderly Conduct per Domestic Violence, Criminal Damage, Assault on Law Enforcement Officer, Aggravated Assault, and Resisting Arrest. She has since been released on a $2500 bond. Slaughter was booked on charges including Disorderly Conduct and Criminal Damage. He has been released on a $1500 bond. Firearms were removed from the home for safe keeping and Children’s Protective Services was notified regarding the 2 teen children who remained.
