Lukeville CBP officers seize marijuana, two motor homes

luke-1Three Arizona residents were arrested Sunday at the Port of Lukeville in connection with a pair of failed drug-smuggling attempts.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers referred Herbert Medcalf, 56, of Phoenix, for additional inspection of the recreational vehicle he was driving.

Luke-2Officers located 41 bundles of marijuana spread throughout the vehicle. The drugs, weighing nearly 697 pounds, are worth in excess of $348,000.

Earlier, officers referred a motorhome driven by Teddy Dwayne Scamp, 51, and occupied by passenger Margaret Jean Lins, 38, both of Buckeye, Ariz., for additional inspection. Officers located 27 packages of marijuana stashed throughout the vehicle. The drugs weighed 574.5 pounds and are estimated to be worth more than $287,000.

Luke-3The drugs and both vehicles were processed for seizure. Medcalf, Scamp and Lins were referred to U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
