County to investigate Green Valley Border Patrol shooting

On May 30, 2014, at approximately 2:40 p.m., Pima County deputies stationed in Green Valley responded to 2500 South Abrego Drive reference a Border Patrol agent involved in a shooting. When deputies arrived, they learned a Border Patrol agent was involved in a vehicle pursuit. The suspect drove his vehicle onto the Torres Blancas golf course at 2500 South Abrego Drive and came to a stop. The suspect fled from his vehicle and was pursued by two Border Patrol agents.

During the foot pursuit, Border Patrol Agent Daniel Marquez fired multiple shots at the suspect. The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Jose Luis Arambula, a resident of metropolitan Tucson, was pronounced dead at the scene. A subsequent search of the vehicle Mr. Arambula was driving revealed twenty one (21) bales of marijuana, weighing nearly 500 pounds in total.

The Sheriff’s Department Homicide Unit responded and took over the investigation. During the course of their investigation, they learned Arambula was arrested by Sheriff’s Department deputies in a similar incident involving drug trafficking and a vehicle pursuit on April 4, 2014.
