Huckelberry’s The Loop full of holes

the-loopWhen he ran out of money in one fund, Pima County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry raided the State of Arizona’s Military Installation Fund, to close The Loop. After spending over $50 million, to date, on the project, it appears the bicycle path is full of holes.

Sink holes that is. Not the all too common variety of Pima County potholes.

Although the Pima County potholes, which mar an average of 70 percent of County roads can make a small chunk of change disappear quickly at the mechanic’s, the sink holes along The Loop could make a small dog or child disappear quickly on a summer’s night.

As a result, Pima County residents are being warned and barricades are up around the sinking soil upon which Chuck had hoped to build his legacy.

Recent rains have apparently caused two sinkholes between the eastbound Interstate 10 frontage road and the Santa Cruz River segment of The Loop south of Ted Walker Park.

The Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department has selected KE&G to repair the area. KE&G is expected to begin repair work on Monday, July 28. The County’s crack PR team warns that in the event of substantial rains before that, the repair schedule may change.

Users of The Loop are encouraged to use caution in the area.
