Update-Florence homicide by Arizona corrections officer

Yesterday an Arizona corrections officer said, “I need help and you need to arrest me”

At approximately 10:00 a.m., Thursday September 4, a Florence Police Department Sergeant observed a man walking through the back parking lot of the Department that appeared suspicious. The Sergeant stopped the man and during the field at the North West corner of the Police Department the man said, “I need help and you need to arrest me.”

As reported yesterday, upon further questioning the individual stated, “I just shot someone.” The suspect is identified as Alexander A. Santiago, age 41, of 474 E. 8th Street, Florence, AZ. Alexander Santiago is a corrections officer with the AZ Department of Corrections.

Sean M. Lafitte has been identified as the mother of Alexander A. Santiago.

On Friday September 5, 2014, Alexander A. Santiago was charged with Murder 1, Murder 2, and Aggravated Assault with Special Circumstances. There was “no bond” issued by the Pinal County Superior Court.

An autopsy on the decedent Sean M. Lafitte is scheduled for Monday, September 8, 2014 in Pima County. Sean M. Lafitte has been identified as the mother of Alexander A. Santiago.

As of this time, a motive for the homicide has not been determined. The investigation is still on-going.
