Miller wins unanimous support for Pima County public budget hearings

The Pima County Board of Supervisors unanimously agreed to support Supervisor Ally Miller’s request to hold public sessions on the County Budget.

Prior to the vote, the supervisors heard from members of the public.

Miller submitted the item to the Clerk of the Board on January 28th for discussion and vote. In an effort to save face, Ramon Valadez then proposed hearings instead of study sessions. Miller agreed to small change. She has been a staunch advocate of openness in the County.

In 2013 Miller urged the Board to hold public study sessions on the budget but her motion failed due to lack of a second. As a result, she then held her own study sessions with the County Administrator and staff and invited members of the public who packed the Board meeting room.

The Board choose selected dates: April 7, 14, 21 and May 5 at 1:30 p.m.
