Tucson Tavern Scene of Deadly Shooting

On May 9, 2015, at 1:49 a.m., Tucson Police Department officers responded to a report of a shooting of 22-year-old Raymond Symonette, who was located in the parking lot of Al J’s Tavern with obvious signs of gunshot trauma.

Officers immediately began rendering first aid using their Individual First Aid Kits (IFAK). Tucson Fire responded to the scene and transported the victim to Banner University Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries. The name of the victim is being withheld, pending next of kin notification.

Detectives from the Tucson Police Department’s Gang Unit responded to continue the investigation. They were able to determine that the victim and his girlfriend had arrived at the establishment together. The victim’s girlfriend went inside, while the victim stayed behind in the parking lot. While outside, the victim was involved in an altercation with other individuals in the lot. During the altercation, gunfire was exchanged and the victim was struck. The other individuals involved fled before police arrived. Although detectives are still in the early stages of the investigation, it appears that the shooting was gang related.

At this time there are no suspects in custody. Investigators are asking anyone with information to please call 911 or 88-CRIME.
