On September 8th at 2:04 a.m., the Casa Grande Police Department responded to Banner Casa Grande Medical Center after receiving a report of an 8 year old boy with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his upper left arm. Upon arrival of our Detectives, the boy was flown to Phoenix Children’s Hospital for specialized treatment. He is expected to undergo surgery later today.
Based on the investigation, Detectives determined 39 year old Mike Lee Dickey was babysitting for the boy’s parents. Dickey was in the bathroom removing his firearm, a .45 caliber handgun, from his waistband when it discharged. The single round passed through two doors, ultimately striking the boy in the upper left arm while he slept in his bedroom.
CGPD Detectives are forwarding the report to the Pinal County Attorney’s Office for review.
