Olson Named Phoenix Chief Financial Officer

Denise Olson has been named Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the city of Phoenix. Olson has worked for the city since 1995 and recently served five months as Acting CFO.

The new CFO will oversee the city’s Finance Department, a staff of more than 200, including capital financing, debt management, accounting and financial reporting, procurement of materials and services, treasury services, risk and inventory management, tax and license and acquisition and management of real property.

Olson’s credentials include extensive experience with bond sales, overseeing the city’s electronic procurement transition, implementing long-term fiscal strategy and planning, managing financial criteria from rating agencies and administering the city’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).

Olson holds a Master in Public Administration with a finance emphasis from Arizona State University and a Bachelor of Business Administration from New Mexico State University. She is also a member of the Government Finance Officers Association.
