Maricopa County Recorder Issues Faulty Ballots

In 2012, Maricopa County Recorder Helen Purcell issued a statement saying that she wished “I could say we never made a mistake in this office – but we do,” after printing the wrong election date on the Spanish side of ballots. This she had to admit to yet one more mistake when it was learned that the ballot for the Special Election in May gives the wrong title for Proposition 124 on the Spanish version.

Bryan Jeffries, president of the Professional Fire Fighters of Arizona, said in a statement, “While the English language portion of the ballot is correct, Spanish speakers represent a significant portion of the electorate, and we want them to have accurate information.”

Purcell and her office have become the focus of national attention for her disastrous handling of this year’s Presidential Preference Election.

According to Ballotpedia:

The Public Retirement Benefits Amendment, Proposition 124 is on the May 17, 2016, special election ballotin Arizona as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment. The measure would preserve the legislature’s current ability to modify public retirement benefits for future employees and replace the current benefit system with a new compounding cost of living adjustment.

A “yes” vote would allow the state legislature to adjust the Public Safety Personnel Retirement System to exchange the permanent benefit increase structure for a compounding annual cost of living adjustment.
A “no” vote would keep the Arizona Public Safety Personnel Retirement System the same.
