Tucson Police Investigating Alvernon Way Homicide

The Tucson Police Department is actively investigating a homicide that occurred Wednesday evening at an apartment complex located at 3125 N. Alvernon Way.

At 6:30 p.m., the Tucson Police Department received several calls about a possible shooting at the complex. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male and an adult female with obvious signs of gunshot trauma. Officers immediately began rendering first aid to both victims using their Individual First Aid Kits (IFAK). Tucson Fire responded to the scene and transported both victims to Banner University Medical Center with life threatening injuries. Shortly after arrival at the hospital, the male victim was pronounced deceased. The female victim was treated and her injuries are no longer considered life threatening.

Detectives from the Tucson Police Department’s Night Detective Unit and Homicide Unit responded to continue the investigation. They were able to determine that the male victim was inside his apartment with the female victim and several other unknown males. An altercation occurred inside the apartment and the male was shot multiple times. The female victim was shot once. Although they are still in the beginning stages of the investigation, detectives are confident that this was not a random act of violence. It appears the suspects involved in the shooting knew the male victim.

The suspects fled before police were able to arrive on scene. Detectives are currently following up on all investigative leads and are asking anyone with information to please call 88-CRIME. You can remain anonymous.

The deceased male victim has been identified as 30-year-old Johnathon Slowley. Next of kin has been notified.
