Your next Pima County Board of Supervisor
I’m John Backer, and I am a candidate for Pima County Board of Supervisor for District 4.
Let me start out by saying I personally like and respect both of the other candidates for Pima County Board of Supervisors – District 4. In today’s world, it is difficult to find good people who are willing to put themselves out there to serve their communities, and I feel humbled and honored to be running a campaign alongside Mr. Christy and Mrs. Closen.
How have you selected the candidates you vote for in the past? If you are like me, and I feel most of you are, you likely have chosen an incumbent unless you have specific information that has soured you to that candidate.
- Have you selected a candidate because the candidate was the first to declare for the race?
- Have you chosen a candidate simply because you believe you have heard their name before?
- Have you chosen a candidate by eliminating their opponents one by one until you arrive at the choice which you consider the best of the worst candidates?
In the race for Pima County Board of Supervisor, our community has a rare opportunity to significantly impact the direction of Pima County for the foreseeable future. We have repeatedly seen how difficult it is to unseat an incumbent due in large part to their name recognition, and many of our citizens feeling disenfranchised – feeling their vote doesn’t matter, and not taking the time to vote.
I feel frustrated, like you do, which is part of the reason I’m running. I believe we feel it is time to show the power brokers and the establishment we will select the candidate who is most like us.
- The one who has walked in our shoes.
- The one who most likely thinks as we do.
- The one who would largely make the same decisions we would.
What criteria will you use to select your next Board of Supervisor member?
- Longtime resident of Pima County
- Military experience, preferably Air Force having served on Davis-Monthan working on A-10s
- Diverse Professional Experience – including business ownership
- Educated – multiple college degrees, preferably some earned from local colleges
- A first time candidate – someone to bring a fresh prospective and willing to listen to the needs of residents and businesses alike
