TUSD Board Delays Vote On Sanchez Employment Again

Once again the Tucson Unified School District Governing Board balked on a vote regarding the employment of Superintendent H.T. Sanchez. The issue of whether or not the Sanchez’s employment contract will be terminated has been delayed until sometime in the future.

The Board stayed in Executive Session for nearly three hours. When they emerged they heard from a few stakeholders during the Call to the Audience portion of the meeting.

The Board then announced that a vote on Sanchez’s employment was going to be delayed “to allow legal counsel to proceed as was discussed in Executive Session.”

Board President Michael Hicks lost all control of the meeting. Board members Adelita Grijalva and Kristel Foster appeared to be controlling the discussion while TUSD Communications Director Stephanie Boe controlled the optics through the District’s Twitter feed.

Education experts agree that the Board likely instructed attorneys to begin crafting a settlement agreement involving the termination of Sanchez’s contract.
