Former Flagstaff Police Officer Charged With Aggravated Assault

Former Flagstaff Police Department officer Jeff Bonar is being criminally charged for his actions on November 16, 2016 involving the arrest of Marissa Morris. At the time, Bonar was employed as an officer with the Flagstaff Police Department, when he struck Morris while he was attempting to detain and arrest her.

The incident was captured on video and shared through social media. The incident was immediately investigated internally for policy violations by the Flagstaff Police Department. The investigation revealed several policy violations on the part of Bonar, who resigned after the department made a recommendation for termination.

The incident was also investigated criminally by the Northern Arizona University Police Department who submitted their case to the Mohave County Attorney’s Office for review. An indictment was issued for two counts of Aggravated Assault against Bonar.
