Navajo Nation Compiles Infrastructure Package To Submit To Trump Administration

Navajo Nation Vice President Jonathan Nez and the Navajo Nation Council Resources and Development Committee listen to presentations made by Division Directors.

The Office of the Navajo Nation President and Vice President organized a meeting between the Division Directors and the Navajo Nation Council Resources and Development committee to discuss infrastructure proposals for the Navajo Nation.

This meeting was organized in response to President Trump’s message to congress regarding his intention to rebuild the infrastructure within the United States. His infrastructure plan is estimated to be one trillion dollars.

“This comprehensive listing of infrastructure projects will be presented to President Trump and the congressional delegation,” said Vice President Nez.

Presentations were provided by the Navajo Division of Transportation, Navajo Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, Navajo Division of Health, Navajo Division of Community Development, Navajo Division of Public Safety and Navajo Division of Economic Development.

“The presentations were informative and listed the costs associated for each project. The key to ensuring successful projects requires coordinative efforts of services from each perspective division,” said Vice President Nez.

The committee did a few recommendations for the proposals.

One suggestion was to consolidate all telecommunications requests into one project category.

“I am very appreciative that the Vice president extended the invitation to talk about Nation’s issues, especially when it’s going to Washington DC. I came to this meeting to learn how prepared we are as a Nation. The staff has a good sense of direction on where it needs to go. I am pleased that my RDC members, Vice President and I came here today. This is what we believe and that is working together to address the Navajo Nation issues,” said Council Delegate Alton Shepard.

All projects presented are construction ready projects.
