Flagstaff High School Columbine Threatening Notes Prompt Community Meeting

A meeting will be held at Flagstaff High School, in the Hurley Theater, 6:00 p.m. today March 22, to provide information in reference to threatening notes found at Flagstaff High School.

On March 9, at approximately 12:20 p.m. officers with the Flagstaff Police Department responded to 400 West Elm Avenue, Flagstaff High School, in reference to a report that a student had found a threatening note. The student immediately notified school administration. School Administration reported the incident to police.

A second note was found on March 20, in a school bathroom. This note was not specific but contained “disturbing” information. These cases are under investigation and actions are being taken by school officials and the Flagstaff Police Department to maintain the safety and wellbeing of students and staff at the school.

The first note indicated there would be a “Columbine” type incident in the month of March. The second note didn’t include a specific threat but alluded to April 20 which is the anniversary of Columbine. At this time there is no information to indicate the either of the threats are credible but both incidents are being taken very seriously.

Flagstaff Police Chief Kevin Treadway says “there is nothing more important to the Police Department than the safety of our students and schools”. The Flagstaff Police Department will be providing a high visibility presence at the school for the next several weeks. A School Resource Officer has been assigned to work at Flagstaff High School full time during school hours throughout the next several weeks to enhance school safety. We are asking anyone with information in regard to the individual(s) responsible for the incidents to contact police. Please call Detective Barreras at (928)679-4055 or Silent Witness at (928)774-6111 if you have information.
