TUSD, SUSD Administrators Top Candidates For Continental Superintendent Spot

Tucson Unified School District administrators Michael Konrad and Daniel Erickson are two of the three finalists for the Continental Elementary School District superintendent spot. The third candidate, Roxana Rico hails from the Sunnyside Unified School District.

The three are vying to fill the vacancy created by the departure of Dr. Scott Hagerman, who was selected to be the superintendent of the Tanque Verde Unified School District, last month.

Konrad, who currently serves as TUSD’s director of schools for middle school leadership, has been described as a weak leader by fellow educators. Konrad moved to TUSD’s central administration in 2014 after a lackluster stint as the principal at Booth-Fickett. Konrad earned poor marks for the handling of the resignation of Booth-Fickett’s popular principal Charles Burmudez.

Erickson, TUSD’s director of Advanced Learning Experiences, has earned higher marks at TUSD, according to sources. As principle of Magee Middle School, Erickson managed to keep a semblance of order while higher ups were creating chaos.

Rico is currently working in the Sunnyside Unified School District as the director of Pre-K.

The Continental School District Governing Board saved the District considerable money by opting to conduct the superintendent search themselves with the assistance of Dr. Hagerman.
