TUCSON, Ariz. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested two men recently, a Mexican national and a U.S. citizen, at Arizona’s Port of Lukeville in connection with separate alleged attempts to smuggle almost 216 pounds of marijuana.
A 41-year-old Gila Bend man and his two passengers were referred for a secondary inspection of his Dodge van Wednesday morning. During the inspection, officers found multiple packages of marijuana, weighing more than 150 pounds combined and valued in excess of $75,000.
On April 8, officers referred a 23-year-old Mexican man for further search of his Jeep SUV and located almost 66 pounds of marijuana, values at nearly $33,000, in the vehicle’s roof area, quarter panels, and gas tank.
Officers seized the drugs and vehicles, and turned both suspects over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
