U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Port of Nogales arrested four individuals during separate smuggling attempts this week involving a combined 104 pounds of methamphetamine, heroin and cocaine, worth an estimated $650,000.
Officers at the Dennis DeConcini crossing on Tuesday found almost 33 pounds of cocaine, worth $368,000, in the rear cargo area of a Ford SUV driven by a 29-year-old Mexican man.
Wednesday, officers at the Morley pedestrian crossing referred a 15-year-old from Phoenix for a secondary search. A narcotics-detection canine alerted officers to the young man, where upon a search they discovered more than a pound of meth valued in excess of $3,000 hidden around his groin.
Officers working at the DeConcini crossing Thursday morning referred a 42-year-old Mexican man from Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, for an additional inspection of his Dodge truck and found he was in possession of close to 5 pounds of heroin, worth more than $81,000.Early today, officers at the DeConcini crossing seized 66 pounds of meth, worth approximately $198,000, during a secondary inspection of a Ford sedan driven by a 77-year-old male U.S. citizen presently living in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico.
Officers seized all drugs and vehicles involved, and turned all subjects over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations
