On May 4, 2017, shortly before 1:00 p.m., Tucson Police officers and members from the Tucson Fire Department responded to a report of a serious injury collision between a motorcycle, driven by 45-year-old Oswaldo Lopez, and a vehicle on S. Campbell Ave. and E. Benson Hwy. Upon arrival, they located Mr. Lopez with obvious signs of trauma.
Paramedics immediately transported the male to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Sadly, shortly after arrival, Mr. Lopez succumbed to injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Detectives were able to determine the 2006 Suzuki motorcycle was northbound on Campbell Ave. in the median lane approaching E. Benson Hwy on a green light. The driver of a silver 2001 Toyota SUV was southbound on Campbell Ave. and made an eastbound turn onto Benson Hwy, striking the motorcycle rider. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in this collision.
Mr. Lopez was wearing a helmet. As the investigation is ongoing, no citation or arrest has been made.
