A volunteer group of Arizona citizens has formed Save Our Schools to challenge Sen. Debbie Lesko’s Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) legislation that was signed by Gov. Doug Ducey last week.
In a press conference at the Capitol on Monday the group announced that it will begin the effort to collect the more than 75,000 valid signatures to put Lesko’s law extending school voucher eligibility to all schoolchildren on hold until the November 2018 general election.
Over two hundred people attended the press conference. Group member Sharon Kirsch stated that the group supports school choice, but not vouchers.
The group describes its membership as consisting of “parents with kids at public schools, charter schools, and private schools. We are Republicans, Democrats, and independents.”
