Sierra Vista Man Arrested After Firing Stolen Gun

The Sierra Vista Police Department arrested a local man on multiple charges after he fired a stolen handgun in the area of Timothy Lane Park just before 11 p.m. on Wednesday. No one was hurt in the incident.

SVPD officers made contact with 24-year-old Sierra Vista resident Terry Chance Jr. near Judd Street and Meadows Drive when they responded to the report of shots fired. An inquiry with dispatch revealed that Chance was a suspect in an unrelated case. When officers attempted to arrest Chance, he initially resisted, though he was quickly taken into custody without further incident.

Officers found a handgun in Chance’s possession and discovered that it had been reported stolen to the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office. Further investigation revealed that Chance had fired the gun, resulting in the shots fired call. Officers also found heroin and marijuana in Chance’s possession.

Chance was booked into Cochise County Jail on the following charges: misconduct involving weapons while being a prohibited possessor, misconduct involving weapons during the commission of a felony, possession of a narcotic drug, unlawful discharge of a firearm, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a stolen firearm, false reporting, and theft. He is still being held on a $27,500 bond.
