Victim Airlifted, Suspect On Parole Arrested In Prescott

Zachary Neal Vasquez arrested for Aggravated Assualt in Prescott

On June 3, 2017, just after 5:00 p.m., PM, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a home on Tara Avenue, Prescott, regarding a domestic violence assault in progress perpetrated by 34-year-old Zachery Neal Vasquez. The investigation resulted in the arrest Vasquez on charges including Aggravated Assault, Kidnapping, Disorderly Conduct, Endangerment and Preventing use of a Phone during an Emergency.

He remains in-custody on a $25,000 bond. Vasquez is on active parole.

Due to the violent nature of this assault and blood evidence found in the home, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) detectives were called in to handle the investigation. The original call came from a neighbor who allowed the victim to hide in her home after she escaped.  Shortly after the initial call, deputies learned Vasquez was trying to force his way into the neighbor’s home and they arrived in time to detain him before he could do so.

During the on scene investigation, deputies saw blood on the suspect’s shirt as he was detained, along with blood spatter throughout the home. Detectives obtained a search warrant and gathered evidence regarding the assault. The suspect denied assaulting his wife. The victim was treated at YRMC for her injuries including facial and neck wounds.

Detectives discovered that Vasquez had repeatedly beat his wife for several hours and refused to let her leave the home during that time. The assault included choking the victim. He also smashed her cell phone to prevent a call for help. Vasquez eventually forced her to shower and clean up the blood spatter in the house. This incident occurred in the presence of a 2-year-old child.

In the meantime, the victim was airlifted from YRMC to a Phoenix area hospital with an apparent skull fracture and multiple broken ribs.
