YCSO Deputies Investigate Shooting Death Of Husband By Wife

On Saturday, June 17th, 2017 at about 5:35 pm YCSO Deputies responded to a report of the sound of shots coming from a home on McKee Mine Road, located off of Highway 89, south of Prescott, AZ.  Upon arrival at the residence deputies discovered the deceased body of James Johnson, age 50. Other family members were located inside the home and provided statements to deputies.

James Johnson, age 50, was involved in a physical domestic dispute involving his wife, age 50, and his step-son, age 19.  It is believed that Johnson first attacked his wife, breaking her leg in the process.  Mr. Johnson then turned his attention to his step-son and began to choke him.  It was during this attack that Johnson’s wife was able to remove a handgun from her husband’s belt and fire multiple shots into his body.  The son, fearing further threat, stabbed his step-father with a kitchen knife.  (Domestic Violence victim names withheld at this time).

The Yavapai County Medical Examiner’s Office has determined that one of the shots fired into James Johnson’s body caused his death.

This case will be forwarded to the County Attorney’s office for evaluation of any charges.
