Phoenix Police Chief Takes “Exception” To Trump’s Comments

Phoenix Police Chief Jeri Williams during hiring process

Phoenix Police Chief Jeri Williams tweeted this weekend that she takes “exception” to comment made by President Donald Trump last week. Trump made the comments in Long Island during a speech to law enforcement.

Trump told the officers, “please don’t be too nice” to criminals.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said she believe trump “was making a joke at the time.”

Some police officers did not find his statements funny. The Washington Post reports that “criticism ballooned over the weekend after major department (sic) weighed in against Trump’s remarks.”

On Monday, the Phoenix Police Department posted Chief Williams’ statement on Facebook:

“Treating people well should be a way of life. Phoenix Police will stay committed to treating everyone with dignity and respect.”
