ADF Demands 12 News, Arizona Republic Retract Defamatory Stories, Issue Apology

Arizona based Alliance Defending Freedom is demanding that Phoenix NBC affiliate 12 News and the Arizona Republic retract “propaganda against ADF authored by the radical, left-wing Southern Poverty Law Center.” The Southern Poverty Law Center also lists Family Watch International and Faithful Word Baptist Church in Tempe as being anti-LGBTQ hate groups.

In July, Alliance Defending Freedom demanded an apology from ABC News for its “abandonment of objectivity in repeating false accusations against ADF made by the Southern Poverty Law Center.” ABC News referred to ADF as an “alleged hate group” in an article about Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ speech to the organization.

“12 News, an NBC affiliate, and The Arizona Republic have committed journalistic malpractice. In an Aug. 14 story entitled ‘What are Arizona’s hate groups?,’ 12 News correspondent William Pitts relied entirely on slanderous and scandalous accusations against Alliance Defending Freedom made by the Southern Poverty Law Center as the basis for his story. On the same day, Arizona Republic reporter Cydney Henderson essentially copied and pasted SPLC data distributed to Arizona media outlets,” stated Alliance Defending Freedom legal counsel Kerri Kupec.

“For both of these media outlets to malign ADF by parroting a false description from a radically partisan, violence-inciting organization like SPLC and call it ‘news’ is a discredit to their news organizations and to the journalistic profession,” said Kupec.

“Further, these stories were recklessly ill-timed. Tuesday marked the five-year anniversary when would-be mass-murderer Floyd Lee Corkins entered the lobby of the Family Research Council in Washington, D.C., with the intent to kill as many employees as he was able,” continued Kupec. Corkins cited SPLC as his inspiration for his attempted-mass murder and was ultimately convicted of domestic terrorism.

“ADF is one of the most respected and successful Supreme Court advocates in the legal profession, having won seven cases at the high court in the last seven years<' noted Kupec. "SPLC spends its time and money attacking veterans, nuns, Muslims who oppose terrorism, Catholics, Evangelicals, and anyone else who dares disagree with its far-left ideology. Meanwhile, ADF works every day to peacefully preserve and affirm free speech and the free exercise of religion for people from all walks of life and all backgrounds, because we believe freedom is for everyone." Kupec concluded, “For the sake of its own integrity and the safety of Arizonans, 12 News and The Arizona Republic should issue an apology to ADF and retract their defamatory stories.”

It’s a little ironic that the Southern Poverty Law Center would call anyone a hate group, I’d figure that would be an infringement on their own monopoly.
As for the AZ Repugnant should we expect anything better? Journalistic integrity isn’t a requirement to work there, and as for KVOA channel 12, I stopped watching them years ago since they’ve never understood that not telling the truth is the same as lying.
Current main stream in American is drawing upon questionable sources for its inspiration.
“It would not be impossible to prove with sufficient repetition and a psychological understanding of the people concerned that a square is in fact a circle. They are mere words, and words can be molded until they clothe ideas and disguise”.

  2. American Fascism carried on by the leftist Progressives. Divide and Conquer, Lie and Deflect. Worked well for Hitler!

    • And it works so well today on the gullible that depend on the MSM for all their information and are too stupid to do any research what so ever. Stupidity will be the death of this country and we are well on our way.

      • Before you attack those Americans who foolishly but understandably rely on our institutions for news and civic guidance, let`s make sure we make the strongest case the evidence allows against the actual malefactors, the media and our fraudulent politicians. I may be slow but then most of us are, and it has taken me what seems an unreasonably long time to figure out how much trouble our wonderful country is in and who is mainly responsible for that plight, an illegitimate media and false politicians. NBC and Senators Jeff Flake and John McCain are prime examples. Most voters do not have the time it takes to figure this out for themselves as they try to live their lives in this time of unprecedented information overload and media manipulation. If we unthinkingly blame “the voters” as the main problem, we are not only being unfair to a great extent, we are helping to significantly absolve the real culprits of their almost exclusive responsibility for this unacceptable state of affairs and we are creating a bogeyman (the public) where it does not exist.

DOUGLAS, Ariz., Aug. 18 – Spent shells litter the ground at what is left of the firing range, and camouflage outfits still hang in a storeroom. Just a few months ago, this ranch was known as Camp Thunderbird, the headquarters of a paramilitary group that promised to use force to keep illegal immigrants from sneaking across the border with Mexico.

Now, in a turnabout, the 70-acre property about two miles from the border is being given to two immigrants whom the group caught trying to enter the United States illegally.

The land transfer is being made to satisfy judgments in a lawsuit in which the immigrants had said that Casey Nethercott, the owner of the ranch and a former leader of the vigilante group Ranch Rescue, had harmed them.

“Certainly it’s poetic justice that these undocumented workers own this land,” said Morris S. Dees Jr., co-founder and chief trial counsel of the Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery, Ala., which represented the immigrants in their lawsuit.

Mr. Dees said the loss of the ranch would “send a pretty important message to those who come to the border to use violence.”

The surrender of the ranch comes as the governors of Arizona and New Mexico have declared a state of emergency because of the influx of illegal immigrants and related crime along the border.
