Riot Breaks Out At Douglas Prison, Officers, Inmates Injured

On Sunday August 27, 2017 at approximately 7:55 p.m., the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office was advised of a riot at the Arizona Department of Corrections prison in Douglas. According to the Arizona Department of Corrections  it took about an hour for officers to get the riot under control.

Four corrections officers were injured, and five inmates were taken to the hospital.

The Douglas Police Department requested assistance from the Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s office reported that “some of the inmates were on the roof of a building and throwing rocks at vehicles approaching the prison.”

The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office responded to establish a perimeter around the facility and Douglas Police Department, Arizona Department of Public Safety, and US Border Patrol were on the scene as well.
